“There's no doubt in my mind that one person can make a difference. Or one opportunity. Or one commitment. I found this out many times over during my student days at Mississippi State, when I made friends that have lasted my entire lifetime. I also met professors who influenced not only my education but my future career decisions. And, through just one organization--the Student Association--I found what I believe to be my calling for life: public service. I was fortunate to serve as Director of Governmental Affairs for the SA, where I gained skills and knowledge that prepared me for positions in state government that have ranged from a state senator to Mississippi's Lieutenant Governor. One opportunity at Mississippi State helped give me a lifetime of opportunities I never would have imagined. ”
